Description
This watercolor painting captures an amazing Austin Texas sunset sky filled with bats as they emerge from Congress Bridge.
A colony of over 1 million Mexican free-tailed bats lives under this bridge. When the sun sets from March to November, the bats blanket the sky in spirals as they head out to forage for food.
The sidewalk atop the bridge fills with people to view the scene. My favorite views are from Lady Bird Lake below the bridge.
You can watch the bats from the Statesman grassy knoll or take a boat cruise, kayak, SUP, or bicycle to enjoy this exciting experience.
This evening event is a popular outing for locals & visitors!
I've painted several renditions of this scene, all are available in my Texas collection.
