Description
This watercolor pet portrait painting captures an adorable white French Bulldog. I wasn't familiar with this breed & found some fun information.
The "bulldog" was so named because it was used to bait bulls in England in the 1800s. English lacemakers used the smaller "toy" bulldogs as lap warmers while they worked. When the lace industry moved to France, they took their dogs with them. In France, the English bulldogs were bred with terriers creating the French bulldogs.
Endearingly called "Frenchies" these pups are loving, wonderful companions.
Man's best friend, not just for laps anymore!
This was a commissioned pet portrait gift for a dog dad.
