Description
This seashell watercolor painting captures a glossy clean Queen Conch shell.
The mollusks live underwater in sand flats & seagrass beds in the ocean. As the animal grows, the shell increases in size as it spirals out.
The inside of the shell is smooth & shiny, usually a soft pink color. The outside surface is sandy colored to blend in with their surroundings.
I was inspired to paint this from memories of summer vacations at the beach when I would often find these shells washed ashore. Reference photo credits go to photographer Marty Nelson.
